HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND FOOD HABIT:

People suffering from High blood pressure must be very careful in selecting their daily food.

First and foremost people having high BP must reduce intake of salt or sodium in their daily food from morning till night. 1 tsp or about 2400mg of salt per day is more than sufficient to remain healthy keeping your blood pressure under control with required medication and normal exercising of walking at least for 30 mnts in the morning. It is good if one can make a habit of walking 30 mnts in the morning and 30 mnts (min) in the evening.

One can try to consume as much fruits and vegetables in Breakfast /lunch and dinner with carbohydrate and contain less fat and sodium. One can drink a class of skinned and fat free milk with the breakfast and dinner.

As far as possible one may try to avoid non-vegetarian foods such as sea food, red meat and chicken etc. However, people who cannot avoid non-vegetarian food in their daily intake can take chicken or fish in moderation with less salt.

For cooking one can use olive or sunflower or corn oil to avoid cholesterol.

Advisable if one can avoid alcohol consumption to maintain normal blood pressure. However, if unavoidable one can take such drinks in moderation as a medicine dose during dinner time.

Try to drink mineral water as much as before and after food.

Avoid taking tinned and fried food.

Try to maintain your weight to normal and to suit with your height.

Limit your intake of protein to around 20 grm/day

Try to consume green salad with your breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Avoid consuming too many fats.

Eat more garlic with your food and gooseberry which can reduce your blood pressure.

Thus, if one can maintain dash food and with regular exercise ( walking etc) and proper medication as may be prescribed by the doctor, one can very well keep their high blood pressure within the normal 120/80 to 130/90 and can lead a happy and healthy life.
